Meet “Bobby” - Dr. Robert D. Elliott
Dr. Elliott is from Louisville, Kentucky where he graduated from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry. His pediatric dental residency and Master’s Degree was completed at the University of North Carolina (UNC) School of Dentistry and UNC Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Dr. Elliott is a Diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry as well as a Fellow with The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. He enjoys teaching both dental students as well as residents and is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at both the University of North Carolina and University of Louisville Schools of Dentistry. In addition, he served as the State Advisor for the North Carolina Dental Assistants Association for almost 10 years.
Dr. Elliott established his first practice in 1998 from the ground up immediately after completing his residency and developed his practice philosophy from the beginning. As important was building a TEAM that was a part of that philosophy: “We don’t want to be the biggest; we just want to be the BEST for our patients and their parents.” He was a solo practitioner for the first 10 years of his practice before building and moving into his current dream office with his rock star partner and 15 amazing TEAM members. Dr. Elliott has been in private practice since 1998 in Cary, NC.
Dr. Elliott lectures throughout the year to other dentists, specialists, dental team members and residents. He has written numerous articles for national dental publications and is a recognized authority on the development of creative and innovative office designs for pediatric dental practices where he is often called upon to consult with new office construction. “Helping Others Achieve” is one of Dr. Elliott’s cornerstone mantras. He can teach you how to successfully navigate the opening of a private practice and avoid the costly mistakes that are associated with this part of your career.
Dr. Elliott remains well connected with colleagues and holds memberships with the North Carolina Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the Southeastern Society of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry and the American Dental Association.

“OVERWHELMING” and “INTIMIDATING”
... the two words I remember feeling when I thought about leaving the security of my residency and going out to start my own private practice. I recall thinking: “why isn't someone out there to help walk us through this?” My goal as your consultant is to help you avoid expensive pitfalls as well as provide you reassurance through a very stressful process.

Dr. Elliott has spent his career developing a practice that communicates his passion and dedication to treating children in a safe, friendly, and fun environment. As both an educator and practitioner his methods are sound and grounded in experience and collegiality. When I was ready to begin my private practice, I contacted Dr. Elliott and with his help and advice, have developed a practice model that will allow me to grow my practice and maintain my sanity. One unique insight I believe Dr. Elliott has that separates him from other practice consultants is his understanding and respect for the staff. His TEAM at Cary Pediatric Dentistry is amazing and they love their boss. Residency does not prepare you for managing a staff let alone running a business, but Dr. Elliott will help you prepare for both. For those practitioners who are just finishing residency or who have been practicing for a while and need a fresh new perspective, taking time to consult with Dr. Elliott will be worth the investment. On a more personal note, Dr. Elliott is one of the best colleagues I have had the pleasure to work with. He always has an upbeat attitude and positive outlook, while keeping the conversation and information real and objective. He will tell you the truth. I owe him many thanks for the time and attention he has given me and my practice and hope that I can pay it forward as my practice continues to grow and mature.

Dr. Elliott has been an amazing mentor and friend throughout the process of becoming a pediatric dentist and deciding to take on the most challenging part of my life thus far... opening Derby City Pediatric Dentistry. Dental school doesn't prepare you for the wild roller coaster ride that opening a new practice takes you on. Finding a location, creating a budget, loan application/approval, design of practice, equipment/supply lists and purchases, working with a contractor, spending hours picking out the placement of electrical outlets, hiring and letting go of team member (my least favorite), building my practice philosophy and I haven't even seen a single patient. Isn't that why I went into pediatric dentistry in the first place?? BUT, having someone an email, phone call or text message away to discuss all these things makes it possible. I cannot begin to explain how wonderful it is to have Bobby supporting DCPD and me. When I feel overwhelmed, I can count on Bobby to give me direction and most of all encouragement. Just a little motivation to remind me that it can be done and that "this is something that happens all the time." I cannot express how much I recommend incorporating Pedo Springboard into building your practice. The advice is coming from someone who has personally built an unbelievable pediatric dental practice, team and philosophy. I hope that DCPD is a tenth as successful and amazing at Cary Pediatric Dentistry!

Dr. Elliott and Pedo Springboard provided a solid foundation and framework to create my very own practice. Following my pediatric dental residency, I did not know where to begin in my goal of building an office. Dr. Elliott provided the materials and guidance that gave a step by step plan to reach that goal. Additionally, the paperwork and office materials gave me a huge jump start on patient handouts and practice manuals. Could I have figured it all out on my own? Sure. But his assistance helped me avoid the common pitfalls, headaches, and stress associated with starting an office from scratch.
Dave Olson, DMD, MS
When I started planning my pediatric dental practice I was lucky enough to have my father (a very successful business owner for over 4 years) to help me with business decisions. However, it didn’t take long to realize that no matter how knowledgeable my father was at business in general, a pediatric dental practice is a very specific venture and there were several fronts on which we were both at a loss. Enter Pedo Springboard! Bobby was and continues to be SO incredibly helpful. The written materials he provided served as invaluable guides and educational tools, but probably the best aspect of Pedo Springboard was how available Bobby was to answer my questions and to offer guidance and support. It was very clear that Bobby truly had the best interest of ALL aspects of my practice at heart. My father has even said on more than one occasion: “Hiring Bobby Elliott was the best money you spent in setting up that practice” and I wholeheartedly agree. I have found a mentor and a true friend in Bobby, and I know my practice and therefore my life would not be the same today without him.

I first met Dr. Elliott in a clinical rotation while in dental school. It was during some downtime in the clinic Dr. Elliott lead a round table discussion with my classmates and myself about life beyond dental school. This was one of the first times that I actually stopped to think about concrete plans beyond graduation. Bobby not only saw something in me I didn’t, but encouraged me to consider a career as a pediatric dentist. I remember the series of texts that followed our and that “lightbulb moment” that I'm sure we have all had.
As a mentor Bobby couldn't have been a bigger help. Fielding numerous questions via calls/texts, to lunch meetings, to mock interviews, I never felt unprepared for the next step.
During residency, I asked Bobby and PedoSpringboard to help me make that next step. Bobby proved he was listening long before I realized when he gave me a lead to pursue in an office that couldn’t be a better fit. Bobby and Springboard have been invaluable resources from the start. To think, it was Bobby's insight and a simple suggestion that lead me to one of the most rewarding, fulfilling careers I can imagine.

Dr. Bobby Elliot is a fantastic leader and mentor. We hired Bobby to help us create a plan for needed change in our large pediatric dental practice in Lancaster PA. From day one, our interactions with Bobby were professional and effective. He bonded quickly with our team and compiled rigorous due diligence notes en route to creating an excellent plan of action for our team and patients. Bobby can wear many different hats with apparent ease, pivoting from being an expert in best industry practices to wearing savvy business and management caps. He is a true leader and developer of people. We will work with him for a long time to come and we are blessed to have him in our professional and personal network.

Creating a Practice
of Your Own
You've been in practice a while and everything seems to be going okay…. Is okay good enough? Want a new set of eyes to evaluate your customer service skills? Are your “business systems” as strong as your “people systems?” Often times bringing in an outside professional who can offer a non-biased perspective can motivate you and your team and energize your practice.
Services include:
Practice Profitability, Transitioning Team Members, Bringing on an Associate/Partner Successfully, Intuitive Leadership, Continuous Improvement Support, Developing Unbiased Practice Balance (plan development after interviewing both the team AND the doctor)
Plans of Action are specifically developed for your practice.
You and Julie continue to operate one of the most profitable and well managed pediatric practices I have ever known. Be sure to remind all your consulting clients/students that you are at the top of the Pedo ladder for production, collection percentage, and profit. In my opinion, your success is due in large measure to (1) your management tools (analyses, monitors, and follow-up); (2) attention to details; and (3) the way you involve and respect team members. Your attention to details and the way you monitor work systems and share the information with staff is second to none.

Dr. Elliott's experience, insight and keen eye was invaluable in making suggestions and changes that I would not have otherwise thought about in the design of my new office space. His eye for spacing and layout helped me to make changes that I would not have appreciated until it was too late to make those changes. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for guidance or just wanting to get another opinion in the pediatric specialty!
Kim Hansford, D.M.D.
So, I committed to opening up my first solo dental practice but where would I begin? Recommendations from friends suggested a dental consultant. Then I came across an article titled "Hanging your single shingle....are you ready?" by Dr. Elliott. For me, I wanted a consultant that wasn't part of a large dental firm or corporation, someone who has personally been in my shoes in building their own dental practice and most important was they show a true interest in my journey as a practitioner. That's what I got. A mentor, an experienced consultant for a pediatric dental practice and a friend. The process took a year and it was stressful but with Dr. Elliott's guidance throughout, he helped keep me on track, avoid pitfalls, and make smart decisions for my practice.
Dr. Matt Pingel
Let me start by saying that I never could have imagined all that goes into starting a pediatric dental practice! Opening your own practice starts as a simple, adventurous, and exciting idea. However, once I was invested the realization quickly hit that it was time to either sink or swim. As someone going into this for the first time, I really didn't know where to begin. I had doubts about if I was doing things correctly. Dealing with so many people, how could I know who to trust? Was I missing some major step in the start-up process that would later come back to bite me financially or add time to the project? And on top of all that, how was I supposed to find time for my family, finish my last 6 months of residency, and successfully complete ABPD written boards? The best decision I made was to work with a consultant to help me with these concerns... someone who had been in my shoes!

Office in Crisis
“…How did I get here? My practice just doesn't seem to be as successful, efficient, and as fun as it used to be. I used to love to come to work; now it’s a chore and I feel stuck!...”
Does this sound familiar? Do you feel like you have complacent veteran team members who just expect more and more? Do they feel like you've become more complacent and they aren't motivated by you to be a team player any longer? Has gossip taken over your practice and you have a divided team? You aren't alone! As a consultant who is brought into offices that are “in crisis”, I often see the doctor point the finger at the team and the team points to the doctor as the problem. We need to hit the reset button!
LIFE CHANGING.
Seriously. This is not hyperbole. Bobby changed my life and the trajectory of my practice.
After 14 years in practice, I felt burned out, stressed, and an overwhelming sense of dread coming to work every day. I thought maybe getting some help with new scripts or flow, a different way of scheduling, or some team building would fix things and help me fall back in love with pediatric dentistry.
Enter Bobby. Turns out what I had was an extremely toxic office manager who was poisoning the culture and stealing my mojo. Bobby gave me the tools and the courage to fire her and knit my stellar team back together --stronger, happier, and better in every way. Bobby is a dynamic, sparkling, enthusiastic cheerleader, and an empathetic wise counselor. Hiring him was absolutely the best investment in my practice.
Knowing him is the gift that keeps on giving. He’s an invaluable resource and an endless well of great ideas. Our whole team is steeped in gratitude for Dr. Robert Elliott.

It is with great enthusiasm that I highly recommend Dr. Elliott and his Pedo Springboard consulting services. I worked closely with Dr. Elliott over the past few years during the arduous process of getting my pediatric practice off and running. At times of indecision and uncertainty, Dr. Elliott proved to be a valuable voice of confidence. I worked with him regarding all facets of my start-up, from initial location choice and floor plan design to staffing. Not only was Pedo Springboard an immense help during the planning phase of my practice, but it has continued to be a great asset two years into my practice with new issues and challenges that arise.
If you were to have any specific questions I can answer, I can be reached via email at DavidSlawinskiDDS@gmail.com. Again, Dr. Elliott and Pedo Springboard were instrumental in my practice success and I highly recommend their services.

To whom it may concern:
I’ve had the incredible opportunity to hear Dr. Robert Elliott speak twice in the last four months, in two different settings.
The first was a large venue at the 2016 AAPD conference that allowed Dr. Elliott to provide an engaging overview of best practices for pediatric dental offices.
The second was a smaller, more brand specific setting that lent itself to customized feedback as well as specific action points for immediate implementation into individual offices.
Dr. Elliott is an engaging speaker with a knack for making each team member feel as though he has been in their shoes and that he understands the challenges that they face on a daily basis.

I researched a few different consulting companies, and came across Dr. Elliott's Pedo Springboard. I was especially drawn to Pedo Springboard because Dr. Elliott specializes in helping pediatric dental practitioners start and successfully grow their practice. He also started and maintains a highly successful pediatric dental practice, which he began after his residency also. After talking significantly with a couple of consulting groups, it was a simple and comfortable decision to work with Dr. Elliott who took the time to get to know me first. Talking to Dr. Elliott initially was very informative, and there was no pressure to go with him over another company. It was obvious that he knew what he was talking about, and that he had helped many others through the exact same scenarios. His services were very fair and affordable even while being on a strict budget with the practice start-up.
I've been working with Dr. Elliott for about a year now, and he is always sincere with his thoughts, and is never in a hurry. I always feel like when we talk, his time is fully devoted to me and what we are discussing. He is a fabulous person who truly cares for you as an individual in addition to consulting with you about your practice. He made sure that everything was covered throughout the process, and any and all of my questions were always answered. He provided many other valuable office resources too, which we use now that we are open and seeing patients.
Dr. Elliott and Pedo Springboard has been a great investment for our practice, and continues to be even after opening the doors. I still communicate with Dr. Elliott regularly and know that he is always there for me when needed.
If you have any desire at all to own your own pediatric dental practice, then do yourself a favor... contact Dr. Elliott!
