Dr. Elliott has been an amazing mentor and friend throughout the process of becoming a pediatric dentist and deciding to take on the most challenging part of my life thus far... opening Derby City Pediatric Dentistry. Dental school doesn't prepare you for the wild roller coaster ride that opening a new practice takes you on. Finding a location, creating a budget, loan application/approval, design of practice, equipment/supply lists and purchases, working with a contractor, spending hours picking out the placement of electrical outlets, hiring and letting go of team member (my least favorite), building my practice philosophy and I haven't even seen a single patient. Isn't that why I went into pediatric dentistry in the first place?? BUT, having someone an email, phone call or text message away to discuss all these things makes it possible. I cannot begin to explain how wonderful it is to have Bobby supporting DCPD and me. When I feel overwhelmed, I can count on Bobby to give me direction and most of all encouragement. Just a little motivation to remind me that it can be done and that "this is something that happens all the time." I first met Dr. Elliott in a clinical rotation while in dental school. It was during some downtime in the clinic Dr. Elliott lead a round table discussion with my classmates and myself about life beyond dental school. This was one of the first times that I actually stopped to think about concrete plans beyond graduation. Bobby not only saw something in me I didn’t, but encouraged me to consider a career as a pediatric dentist. I remember the series of texts that followed our and that “lightbulb moment” that I'm sure we have all had.
As a mentor Bobby couldn't have been a bigger help. Fielding numerous questions via calls/texts, to lunch meetings, to mock interviews, I never felt unprepared for the next step.
